The popular French typecutter Firmin Didot developed a new Greek typeface in Paris in 1805, under the influence in the neoclassical ideals of the late 18th century. It was instantly utilised within the publishing programme of Adamantios Korai, the prominent intellectual figure from the Greek diaspora and major scholar from the Greek Enligntment. Didot’s grandson Ambroise Firmin Didot eventually brought the typeface to Greece having a field press throughout the Greek Revolution in 1821. Given that then the typeface has enjoyed an unrivaled achievement as the preferred selection of just about every type of publication until the last decades on the 20th century. Didot’s type was the base for a new font, GFS Didot (1994) which was developed by Takis Katsoulidis, and digitized by George Matthiopoulos.
